One of the most important things when pivoting to more personal branding in your business is to understand who you are. Naturally, we feel that we know ourselves pretty well, however, to communicate this clearly you need to nail down what makes you YOU. This can be a tricky exercise. There's so much that makes you the person you are! Your stories are incredibly useful here. By looking at your stories and asking the right questions, exciting patterns will emerge. From here you can start finding the most enticing features about yourself to share.
Think about the following:
Did you move from work in which you were unsatisfied with your current business? What prompted the move? Why are you happier now?
When do you feel most like yourself in your work? What are you doing at these times?
Are there any repeated personality traits in your stories? For example determination, empathy, creativity or honesty.
Is there a repeated theme in your client interaction stories? e.g. My clients often say that I....... (fill in the blank)
Remember, the stories that come to mind can be business stories or stories from your personal life. Both are useful for defining your personal brand.
The goal is to capture the true essence of yourself. Appreciating your uniqueness will help you to help others and build a stand-out business.
