In recent months, I have done storytelling consultations with coaches in South Africa and around the world. Because of their incredible talents and the high-end clients they work with, I've come to regard them as the best of the best. However, if you’re a coach reading this in the hopes of finding a list of the top people in your field, I’m happy to disappoint you.
The problem with lists like this is that usually you won't be on them. This is ok if it makes you more motivated to make a name for yourself. But sometimes this can prod the self-limiting beliefs you’ve worked hard to cut out, even though you know the list is out of context for several reasons. Either way, lists like this don’t help because they make you do something you should never to – compare yourself to other people.
Exploring the stories of top coaches has shown me how unique and exceptional each one is. The message is this - no-one else can do what you do in the way you do it. There is no ‘best’. If you’re looking for a list of coaching royalty there’s only one name you need – your own.
